How I made my poster - Kathryn Davies

I used "Photoshop Elements 8" to create my film poster. I started by taking stills of the film, as our actress has left college and we have no contact with her, leaving us unable to take photos. I took about 20 stills of the film to help my create my poster.

I started a new project, and chose to make the poster A3 size, as that seems a normal size for a poster.

I started with the still of the scrabble board, and stretched the image to show only the part of the image that spells out words relevant to the film. I used the black and white version of this still, to help other elements of the poster stand out, and so the background wasn't too overpowering.

I then added one of the stills of our main actress, Lucy. I stretched the image so that it was the main focus of the poster. I used the eraser tool and changed the opacity to remove the background on the photo of Lucy, and blend the image into the poster.

I also used the burn tool on the photo, to make Lucy look more distressed, and create bags under her eyes.

After this, I added text to the photo. I used white text to show the actors names, white and red text for the "directed by" section, and red yellow and black text with drop shadows for the main name of the film, again to help the title stand out most from the poster.

I then added the photo of our other actress Kelly, dressed as Jester, the clown.

I used the magic wand tool to remove the background from the photo, used the burn tool to enhance the black makeup on her face, and used the sponge and dodge tools to brighten the red make-up and wig, to make this image stand out. I also used the eraser tool to blend the edges of the image into the rest of the poster. I rotated the image slightly too to suggest that there's something not quite right with this character.

Finally, I added the 18 certificate in the bottom-right hand corner, I took the image from the bbfc website.
