Short Film research - Kathryn Davies and Natasha Kendall

For our A2 media project, we have chosen to create a short film, lasting 5 minutes. We began with some research on short films to familiarise ourselves with the concept of a short film. We watched several short films. They are as follows:

The film is an animation about a cartoon kiwi - a type of bird that cannot fly, who spends its whole life working towards achieving his dream. The kiwi wanted to create the illusion that it was flying over a forest as it soared down through the sky from the top of a cliff.

The film is about a man who creates a black hole in a piece of paper. He places it on a vending machine and can reach through the machine to take the chocolate from inside. He then uses the black hole on a safe, only his greed gets in the way, and he ends up trapped in there, perhaps forever.

This is a short film in the style of a music video.

From watching these, we found that most short films have a basic storyline, as they only have limited time to convey their story to an audience. We also found that short films mainly only have a couple of basic characters. However, we thought that this made the films we watched quite dull and unexciting.
