Analysis of my final film poster - Kathryn Davies

Analysis of my film poster

I have completed my final film poster for our film "Psychosis Circus". When creating my poster I took into account the features from the film poster for "Se7en" that I analysed a few days ago.

To start with, I took stills from our film, as I was unable to take proper picture due to the fact our main actress has left college.

I imported the pictures into "Adobe Photoshop Elements 8" and begin to edit some of them to create our poster.

 This is my finished poster.

I used the scrabble board as the background as this is a main point in our film, and if seen on a poster, would make an audience wonder what the game scrabble had to do with the film.

I used the image of our actor Lucy, looking left, as I thought it could then be linked to another image in the poster, in this case the clown, played by our other actor, Kelly. I made this image quite large to show how Lucy is the main actor in the film.

I used the image of Kelly to show that her part is important in the film, but not quite as important as Lucy's role. The image is in colour rather than black and white to make it stand out. It is also at a slight angle on the poster to show that there's something not quite right, linking to how in our film, the clown is just a figment of the character Scarlette's imagination.

I put the actors names in white text abover their heads on the poster, similarly to the poster for "Se7en" that I analysed, as I thought it would help the audience to know which actor plays which character.

I used two different fonts for the title of the film. The first looking more forensic and relating to the word "Psychosis" and the second more rounded and fun representing the word "circus". I used the colours red and yellow to make the title stand out from the poster, and again to emphasize the theme of a circus. I positioned the text toward the bottome of the poster to help an audience to remember the title as it is likely to be the last part of the poster that they see or read.

I put the 18 certificate in the corner of the poster, as when i looked at film posters here most of the certificates were placed in corners of the posters.
