In the centre of the film poster is a women, she is stood alone and with no objects really near her. This could be to represent that the women is venerable, as she is all alone with nothing to protect her. This also shows the audience that she is important as she is in the centre of the shot, it shows them that she is obviously a big character in the film. Behind her is one standing light and no ceiling lighting, this means the girl is surrounded by shadows and darkness. This could be to show the audience she is in danger, and although the room looks normal something sinister is going to happen. Mounted on the wall behind the women is a stuffed deer head. This could be clue into what’s going to happen in the film and could be seen as a symbol of death. To the right of the women to the back of the poster is a shadowed doorway, with a masked man stood in it. The women has her back to the man and this shows she is venerable as the man could attack her or approach her without her knowledge. The man is place higher up on the poster which mean he appears to be looking down on her. This is to show inequality in the two characters, the masked man is seen as stronger and more important than the women. There clothing also shows this as the man is wearing a formal suit and the women is wearing casual clothing. Half of the masked mans body is in the shadows and cannot be seen, this shows that he has something to hind or that there is a lot we don’t know about this person. The mask is to conceal his identity so he maintains an element of mystery. These things make the audience nervous and as they don’t know anything about him, this emphasises the name of the film as the audience see the man as a ‘Stranger’. Above the man there is white text that reads ‘WE TELL OURSELVES THERE’S NOTHING TO FEAR BUT SOMETIMES WHERE WRONG’, this tells the audience straight away that there is in fact something to fear. This is also the tag line for the film. Below the women is the film title and the names of the two main actors in the film. The font for the title is white, this could be so it looks like light through the shadows.
